there are still tons of servers out ther eplaying counter strike and you wont have trouble finding a server any hour of the day or night. the file sizes are small and you won't wait long for the map to be downloaded. custom maps are downloaded before a game quickly if you don't already have the map in your CS directory. you don't have to wait for the developers to come up with something every 6 - 12 months or so and then pay extra for the content. one of the things i like about this game is that it is easy for small time designers to come up with interesting custom maps. plus without knowledge of the maps you will fall prey to inadvertently walking out in areas which are flat out kill zones. if you are new to FPS games you are going to get owned as the talent level on this game is prettyhihg on most servers.
